Judging the Derwent Art Prize 2014

Mad as I am about pencils (I’m a graphitokleptomaniac, taking one from every company I visit), I’m pleased to have been asked to judge the second Derwent Art Prize. The prize ‘rewards excellence through showcasing the very best international works created in pencil’ – but not just pencil: charcoal, pastel, graphite, water-soluble and coloured pencils.

Screen shot 2014-02-18 at 18.58.48Winning works go on show at the Mall Galleries (15-20 September) and the Pencil Museum in Cumbria (1 December-9 January). (Here is a link to a rather smashing history of the pencil.)
